and the Zoning Board of Appeals in the Town of Saugus.

Obligation to have their pets vaccinated against rabies.
The Town of Saugus is contracted with JRM Hauling and Recycling to pick-up the following: Three (3) items per one-family building Six (6) items per two-family building Nine (9) items per three family building
Residential customers shall place regular weekly refuse in durable
watertight containers or plastic bags of sufficient strength to prevent failing.
Each container or bag shall not exceed 35 gallon capacity or 50 lbs.
Trash/recyclables must be curbside by 7:00 am the morning of collection.
2 Bulky Waste Item, bag, or barrel per week with $2 Green Sticker affixed and visible.
Rigid plastics may be disposed of curbside with a $2 sticker.
Sticker Program Stickers available at Town Hall, Hannaford’s, and Stop & Shop courtesy booths.
RedSticker Items - $20
Used for the disposal of white goods/appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners,
washers, dryers, water heaters, dishwashers, heavy metal files, heavy metal cabinets or desks. One White Goods Item per week with the $20 red sticker affixed and visible;
and called into JRM (800) 323-4285 the evening before your pick-up.
Item will be collected with a different truck.
GreenSticker Items - $2 Used for any Bulk Item that can go into the trash truck such as furniture, mattress/box spring,
rugs/carpeting cut to 4’ lengths, microwave ovens, small bundle of wood (cut to 4’ lengths). Also used for 1 bag or barrel of items not thrown out in weekly trash collection such as
small toys, old clothing, decorations, household items, scrap wood, craft supplies, etc.
* * * Notice to Residents using oversized trash barrels * * * The trash hauling contract states that barrels 36 gallons or less,
weighing 50 lbs. or less, will be picked up.
JRM has been picking up 42 gallon containers, but will stop doing so.
Gas Grill Disposal Remove the propane gas tank – tanks can be swapped at refilling stations, do not dispose. Remove any plastic parts, especially the plastic wheels. Please bring to the Recycling Drop-off Center behind the DPW 515 Main Street. IT WILL BE RECYCLED. May also be placed curbside on trash day with a $2 green trash sticker affixed to it. It will be treated as trash and go into the waste stream.
Lawn Mower Disposal Mowers accepted for curbside pick-up with a $2 green trash sticker affixed to it. Gas mowers must have the gas and oil emptied from it & the gas tank removed. Electric mowers accepted without any required preparations. It will be treated as trash and go into the waste stream.
Snow Blower Disposal Will NOT be accepted for curbside pick-up by JRM. Snow Blowers and Lawn Mowers will be accepted for drop-off at: Turner Salvage & Recycling, 225 Commercial St, Lynn, MA (781) 595 -3741 They must have the gas and oil emptied from them and the gas tank removed. Electric mowers accepted without any required preparations. THEY WILL BE RECYCLED.
Curbside Recycling Collection The Town of Saugus offers curbside recycling pick-up on regular trash collection day each week.
There are two separate trucks, one to pick up your household trash and one to pick up recycling.
Recyclable materials that may be placed curbside for collection each week are:
paper, cardboard, pizza boxes, and mixed containers such as glass, tin,
plastic cans, various containers, and jugs. All cardboard boxes should be
broken down to 3’ X 3’, and pizza boxes and mixed containers should be clean.
Do not place recyclables in plastic bags.
The following materials may NOT be recycled through the Town’s curbside collection service:
• Plastic hoses – dispose in the trash.
• Styrofoam – should be placed in the trash.
• Plastic bags and film wraps – can be recycled at a local food store, Walmart, or Target.
• Clothes hangers – can be given to dry cleaners.
• Rigid plastics and kids toys may be disposed of curbside with a $2 sticker.
• Scrap metal – can be recycled at the drop-off site.
JRM will only collect accepted items.

The Town of Saugus urges all residents to recycle. Recycle Stickers are Free - Pick them up at Town Hall The Saugus Recycle Program offers free stickers to use on rubber barrels up to 35 gallons.
Please place stickers on both sides of containers so they are visible to collectors. (Recycle Bins are no longer available at Town Hall.)

Recycling Drop-off Site located behind the Department of Public Works
515 Main Street, Saugus FOR SAUGUS RESIDENTS ONLY The Site is closed for the winter season The site will re-open 8:00 am to 2:00 pm in April 2019.
The site will be open from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on the 3rd Saturday
of the month in January, February, and March, weather permitting.
The drop-off site will accept the same recycling items that can be placed curbside.
Also will accept TV’s and Computers - up to 3 units from Saugus residents only.
Due to recent international recycling restrictions, our local collection facility
is no longer able to recycle rigid plastic items or materials in plastic bags. Rigid plastics and kids toys – may be disposed of curbside with $2 sticker
As of July 2, 2016, now accepting: Fluorescent Lamps: Bulbs must be given to an attendant / employee on the site,
who will then place them in the shed. There is no fee to recycle fluorescent bulbs.
Other Mercury-Bearing Items: Thermostats, thermometers, mercury switches,
and button cell batteries. All items should be given to an attendant / employee,
who will then place them in the shed. There is no fee to recycle these items.
Car Tires: Residents may now recycle car tires up to 22 inches for $3 each.
Tires any larger than 22 inches will not be accepted. Items should be given
to an attendant / employee with a check payable to “The Town of Saugus.”
Textiles: Clothes, books, bedding, curtains, belts, purses, backpacks, shoes,
stuffed animals, and CDs. Please place the items in the textile box. Items that are old, have holes or buttons missing, will be accepted. Wet or moldy items will not be accepted.
Scrap metal items: bed frames, siding, fixtures, bicycle frames, and other items
made from stainless steel, lead, and cast iron. Gas Grills:Please remove the propane gas tank –
tanks can be swapped at refilling stations, do not dispose.
Remove any plastic parts, especially the plastic wheels.
There will be no pre-registration fee at this time.
You will need a current driver’s license with your Saugus address.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. The Town of Saugus provides
the recycle drop-off site for its residents and is responsible for funding it.

There will be no “missed pickups” conducted.
The Town asks that you please do your part in proper preparation for disposal. We ask that you abide by the following rules:
Leaves must be out for collection by 7:00 am on your regular rubbish collection day.
Leaf containers must be physically separated from trash and recycling.
Paper leaf bags are preferred for leaf disposal.
If barrels are used to contain the leaves, barrels must be clearly marked with
yard waste stickers (free at Town Hall), and remove covers so the leaves are visible.
No plastic bags, cardboard boxes, branches, or brush will be accepted. Please note that separate trucks collect the rubbish, recycling, and leaves;

The Town of Saugus Compost Site
located behind the Department of Public Works - 515 Main Street, Saugus
FOR SAUGUS RESIDENTS ONLY
The Site is closed for the winter season The site will re-open 8:00 am to 2:00 pm in April 2019.
The site will be open from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on the 3rd Saturday
of the month in January, February, and March, weather permitting.
Seasonal fee of $25.00 must be paid by Check or Money Order. NO CASH accepted. Entry is not allowed to the compost site without a sticker.
Stickers may be purchased at:
the D.P.W. office, Inspectional Services at Town Hall, or at the Compost Site.
The stickers must be PERMANENTLY PLACED on the lower left corner of the windshield.
NO OUT OF STATE LICENSE PLATES ALLOWED. Yard waste must be in brown compost bags or you may use open containers.
Only grass clippings, leaves, and brush will be accepted.
No branches or limbs larger than 3” in diameter.
The compost site will remain open until the first snow storm in the Fall.
Saugus Conservation Commission – Pool Closing Guidelines As an educational reminder, we would like to advise Saugus residents
who have a pool, regarding the process of closing it for the season.
The Conservation Commission uses the following guidelines:
The chemical content of water in swimming pools can be detrimental to
wetland plants and animals.To remove harmful chemicals, it is the owner’s
responsibility to adjust the PH to a neutral range (6.8 - 7.2) and to leave
pool water standing, uncovered, for a minimum of seven (7) days without
the addition of chlorine.Drain water slowly, over several days, onto
vegetated surfaces and away from wetlands.
