______________________________________________________ The Town of Saugus Citizen Reporting Tool
Saugus MIS Director Michael Donovan has announced the town’s adoption
of a new platform that will allow citizens to report issues like potholes
or graffiti in their neighborhoods.
Powered by SeeClickFix, the place-based reporting tool
is designed to be used from a mobile device, so residents can
take part in community improvement while they are around town.
They can also report issues through the websitehttp://seeclickfix.com or right from the town websitesaugus-ma.gov Town Manager Andrew Bisignani expects to see great citizen response to the system.
“This reporting tool holds our government accountable to take care of quality-of-life issues
that affect our citizens, and it holds the people accountable to take part in their communities,”
he said. “It’s a win for everyone.” The SeeClickFix system has already been implemented by cities and government agencies
all over the world. The platform allows citizens to pinpoint problems on a map, comment on
issues posted by others, vote to fix issues, and even create “watch areas” to keep tabs on a
particular location. Governments have appreciated the ability to respond to citizen requests
within the platform, and to monitor specific areas.
Saugus residents are invited to download the mobile app, available for iPhone, Android,
and Blackberry, athttp://seeclickfix.com/apps For more information, contact ______________________________________________________
Route 1 Water Main Replacement in Saugus Construction to Begin in April 2011
Work is expected to be completed by Fall 2012
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is set to begin a project
to replace a water main that runs underneath Route 1 in Saugus. In December 2010, the construction contract
was awarded to Albanese Brothers, Inc. of Dracut. In a cost sharing effort with the Town of Saugus, MWRA will also install a 12-inch
Saugus water main to replace the old water mains and service connections that
provide water supply and fire protection to residents and businesses along Route 1. The cost of the $5 million project will be shared between
the MWRA (72%) and the Town of Saugus (28%). MWRA and the Town of Saugus have been working closely with the Massachusetts
Department of Transportation to coordinate their efforts and reduce the impacts
to the community and businesses along the route.
Work will begin in April and most of the work will take place
in the evening hours between 9:00 pm and 5:00 am
Monday evening through Friday morning.
MassDOT will allow MWRA and the contractor one lane closure
between the hours of 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm
and a two lane closure from 11:00 pm through 5:00 am.
Lane closures will not be allowed one day prior to and one day following a holiday. click here to view a map of the work area
