2008fishcollage.jpgThe Youth & Recreation Department would like to thank
Tom & Jen Falasca the owners of Tom's Bait and Tackle

for their generous donation towards the department for our
Youth Programs.
Tom and Jen began the "Take a Kid Fishing Day" five years
ago, to promote the joys of fishing as well as quality family
time.  Tom's Bait and Tackle funded the entire event, with
prizes and snacks donated from local sponsors.  As the
event grew, so grew the sponsors.  As they put it one good
deed deserves another.
And the community is lucky to have such good people in it!
Sincerely and greatly appreciated,
Gregory Nickolas, Director

The Saugus Youth & Recreation Department would like to thank
the Lynnhurst School PTO

for their generous donation to this department.
We appreciate the PTO for thinking of this department which is always
in need and this of course will help support the Youth Programs.
Director, Gregory Nickolas

The Saugus Youth & Recreation Department would like to thank Bob Maccini
and Water Works Lawn Sprinklers for once again coming to the rescue to help
move a ton of mulch at the Waybright Playground so it is clean and safe for the
children to enjoy.  Director, Gregory Nickolas said "thanks to Bob responding on
one of the hottest days of the summer, he made a difficult job that much easier."

Letter of Thanks to Sean Maltais and Suffolk Downs Racetrack

The Saugus Youth & Recreation Department along with the Youth Commission would like
to extend our thanks for the generous donation from Suffolk Downs. Sean Maltais a Saugus
resident, Town meeting member and an employee of Suffolk Downs was instrumental along
with town manager Andrew Bisignani in selecting the five organizations to receive recognition.
The administration of Suffolk Downs started a new program this summer called "Commitment
to Community" to help make a positive difference.  We extend our heart felt thanks for
recognizing this department and supporting it financially.  Again, thank you to Sean Maltais-
Mutual Department, Chip Tuttle- Chief Operating Officer, and Christian Teja- Marketing.

Highlights from the Needham Track Event which was sponsored by the Saugus
Youth & Recreation Department and Coached by Christopher Tarantino.  It was a
great day for the Saugus Youth Group.  Saugus won a first place trophy.

Pictures are:  the track group running with the trophy- obviously very proud and happy.

Saugus Youth & Recreation Anna Parker Cleanup
On April 18th, a Saturday morning, people and families came to help
and give their support and volunteer their time to help clean up the
Anna Parker playground along with Mark Andrews a concerned
parent/resident and the Saugus Youth & Recreation Department.
A Big Thank you to all who showed up to help.

Also, thanks to the Town Manager Andrew Bisignani and
DPW
for getting
the materials ahead of time.  Director Gregory Nickolas says "In times of
financial difficulty this is what it's gonna take to keep our playgrounds safe
and clean for our children."

Thanks to  Bob Macinni & Brian Churches
co-owners of Water Works Lawn Sprinklers
for responding to a last minute plea for help
from Youth and Rec. Director Greg Nickolas
and using their bobcat to help distribute the
mulch.  Children were shoveling the sand in
the sand box.  Diane Vecchione a parent
and park neighbor worked hard doing long
overdue trimming of hedges and bushes.
Steve Burke a grandparent & long time
Saugus resident
came down to lend a hand.

Mothers and fathers with their children wheel-barrowing mulch and sand, raking and
helping out to clean up the park helped make this a great success.  It looks great and
we hope to keep it that way.  Hopefully this was a rewarding and learning experience for
the younger ones who helped clean up the park. We hope that in the future this will help
prevent them from wanting to cause damage.
