Saugus Tree Committee

treelogo-goals500.jpg

The Saugus Tree Committee meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month
at 7:30 pm in the Laurel Gardens Meeting Room, 2 Rice Street, Saugus

The Tree Committee plans several events each season, including two
"tree farm maintenance days".  Watch the
Saugus.com Events Calendar

for opportunities to volunteer and contribute to our town’s environmental
health, get close to nature, maintain the Tree Farm, and have some fun.

Saugus has always been known for its trees -
the town seal features a tree in the background.

Saugus was first declared a "Tree City" by the National Arbor Day Foundation in 1998.
By maintaining the Tree Farm, we can ensure that public trees lost
to
disease and injury get replaced at a minimal cost to the town.

We can always make good use of donations of new or recycled shovels, rakes,
gloves, trowels, wheelbarrows or tools that volunteers can use at the Tree Farm.

If you are able to make a donation of these or other tools,
please contact Nancy Prag at (781) 231-9531

Your generosity will be much appreciated.

Further information will be gladly given if you call one of our Board Members:

Margery Hunter  (781) 233 - 0349

Tim Hawkes      (781) 233 - 6428

Directions to the Saugus Tree Farm:

Central Street to Jasper Street
take a right onto Cross Street (the sign says "to Auburn Street")
Bear left onto Auburn Street.
The walk-through driveway is between 25 & 27 Auburn Street,
which is the Town Right of Way, to the Tree Farm.

You may park near 27 Auburn Street (Pioneer Sales Building)
then walk down the driveway
to the right of the building, over
the railroad tracks and follow the dirt road to the tree farm.

You can also try to drive all the way down, though space is limited.

In 2005, Saugus residents recycled more than 3.5 million pounds
of material.

By doing this, Saugus saved the equivalent of 345,700 gallons of gasoline,

25,500 trees, and recycled enough plastic bottles to make 6,300 fleece jackets.
