Saugus Tree Committee
A volunteer board with 3 main goals:
* Maintain the Town Tree Farm
* Educate people about the importance of trees
* Continue an ongoing program of tree
replacement on Saugus streets
Saugus was first declared a "Tree City" by the National Arbor Day Foundation in 1998.
The town has always been known for its trees- the town seal features a tree in the background.
By maintaining the Tree Farm, we can ensure that public trees lost to disease and injury get
replaced at a minimal cost to the town.
Further information will be gladly given if you call

Saugus Tree Farm Maintenance Day and www.350.org Event
Saturday October 24, 2009 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

We are proud to have a tree farm in Saugus, which provides
a renewable resource for street tree replacement.
The Saugus Tree Farm is the creation of a volunteer effort and
Tree Farm Maintenance Day is a great opportunity to get close
to nature and prepare the Farm for winter. Saugus Action Volunteers
for the Environment (SAVE) will be on hand to help and would welcome and appreciate
additional help from the public. Bring yard tools and gloves. Light refreshments provided.
The www.350.org is PART of the Tree Farm Maintenance day. Our Tree Farm date will
be SAVE's participation in 350.org, the Global effort to encourage politicians to try to
reverse the climbing CO2 percentages. We will photograph the volunteers at the Tree Farm
in front of the 350.org sign and include it in the mass mailings sent to politicians everywhere. This is very exciting to be part of a global effort on October 24th!
Directions to the Saugus Tree Farm:
Central Street to Jasper Street
take a right onto Cross Street (the sign says "to Auburn Street")
Bear left onto Auburn Street.
The walk-through driveway is between 25 & 27 Auburn Street,
which is the Town right of way, to the Tree Farm.
You may park near 27 Auburn Street (Pioneer Sales Building)
then walk down the driveway to the right of the building, over
the railroad tracks and follow the dirt road to the tree farm.
You can also try to drive all the way down, though space is limited.
