SWOT  2010 Season
2010-logo-swot.jpg

Team Sizzle 2010 One-Pitch Tournament Champions
Sizzle faced Kane's Donuts and aquired their first defeat 3-1 but Kane's, having already lost
a game earlier in the day needed to beat Sizzle twice. With the crowd and fans behind the
underdogs, Sizzle took the field for the second time. Kane's felt the pressure but took the early
lead on a sacrifice hit by Sue Courchesne that gave Karen Sudbey a clear path to home.
In the 4th inning Kane's scratched two more marks in the sand as Cheryl Chesna and
Cathy Langone each hit RBI singles. The Donuts tried to score again in the 5th with Chris Bonia
poised in scoring position at third base but Sizzle's third basewomen Jane Heelen caught a
screaming line drive for an out against the batter and that pulled Chris off the bag allowing Jane
the tag for a double play that ended the inning. With a 3-0 lead Kane's needed to hold Sizzle
where they were but Sizzle had other plans. They came out hitting in the bottom of the 5th.
Linda Ayala got the ball rolling with a lead off base hit, Connie McGill and Norma Santiago
followed suit. A well placed sacrifice hit by Devon Lacava and an RBI single by Colleen Fahey
tied the game 3-3. Kane's came out flat in the top of the 6th inning so Sizzle took advantage as
Heather Irber and Linda Ayala teamed up with back to back doubles for which Heather scored
the go ahead run. Kane's donut box was empty as they took the field at the top of the 7th.
It was three up and three down giving Sizzle a spectacular win over the league champs 4-3.

Kane's Donuts 12-0, Kowloon  8-4, LA Cleaning  5-7, and ACS Development  4-8

LA Cleaning met Kowloon in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday, 8/17.
Kowloon's Karyn Salines got the inning going with a triple in the first inning. Teri Barchara
hit an RBI single to bring Karyn home. Kim Chaban Griffith's RBI single allowed Karrie Babo
to cross the plate and Heather Anderson's single drove in two more runs giving Kowlon a 4-0
advantage. LA Cleaning's Sue Rutaowoski, taking advantage of a walked batter, hit an RBI
single in to center field. LA scored another run in the third inning as Jean Carr reached first
base, then Betsy Costello and Karen Snow advanced Jean into scoring position so Maureen
Dunn could hit an RBI double. Two more runs were recorded in the fifth inning as a couple of
walks ended up scoring on another batted ball by Karen Snow. LA held Kowloons offense at
4 runs through the 6th inning when Karen Staskawicz hit a gorgeous triple, but it wasn't
enough. LA Cleaning dusted the field with three more runs in the bottom of the 6th as Marcia
Hall, Elizabeth Brazil, and Vicky Serefin all picked up RBI's. LA's pitcher Chris Hofman
sealed the deal with three up and three down in the 7th.  Final score 7-5.

ACS Developement
struggled in the playoff game against Kane's Donuts Wednesday, 8/18.
Although ACS pitcher Ellen Giannusa struck-out 2, Kane's batters and ACS had 3 hits on the
night by Patty Imperato, Lisa Ceecherini and Ellen Giannusa they could not score against
Kane's defense. Kane's offense creamed the ball that night with 3 home runs, one by
Cheryl Marotta and two by Patty Carey.

In the final, LA Cleaning faced Kane's Donuts.
LA held on through 5 innings but the
Donuts were fresh out of the oven from their win the night before, and Lisa Lucas pitched a
superlative game and the defensive team behind her helped her with a no-hitter. Kane's
offense grabbed 16 hits with big at bats by Lisa Lucas who hit a home run in the 3rd, her
fourth for the season, and an RBI triple in the 4th. Cheryl Marotta added another to her
home run count, making it 5 on the season. Final score 15-0

night, 8/11, in their final game of the regular season. Kowloon jumped ahead in the first

Courchesne. But it was Donut's catcher, Tonya Chadwick, who stole the game with two

Week 8 Summary

As Saugus Women's Softball slides into the final weeks of the regular season
the competition goes into high gear and
Tuesday night
's game between Sizzle and
ACS Development proved just that. Sizzle showed up with "Fire in Their Eyes" as
Connie McGill, team's captain and heart and soul, rallied the team to their first victory.
ACS had the lead 4-0 in the top of the first inning, but Sizzle replied with 5 runs of their
own as Jane Heelen hit a double placing her and a walked batter into scoring position.
This allowed Linda Ayala to pick up a two RBI's single, and then Connie McGill drove in
an additional run with her hit. Nancy Curiale gave the team a spark and the lead with a
two RBI double making the score 5-4 at the bottom of the first. In second inning, Sizzle's
left fielder
Colleen Fahey, kept ACS from scoring with a diving catch of a well hit ball by
Ellen Giannusa and Tanya Leger froze a scoring threat in the third inning with a line out
double play
at third base. Sizzle stoked the flame again in the bottom half of the third
inning and tallied up 5 more runs on 7 hits by Colleen Fahey, Nancy Curiale, Tanya Leger,
Michelle Nickerson, Jane Heelen, Linda Ayala, and Connie McGill. ACS challenged Sizzle's
lead in the 4 and 5 innings with hits by Lisa Ceecherini, Cathy Derousi, Delia Cruz and a
pretty triple by Ellen Giannusa but ACS could only muster together 10 runs on 18 hits and
dropping to Sizzle's heat, 11-10.
