that brought fans to the field to root on their favorite players and teams.
Monday night second seed team, Melrose Family Chiropractic played third seed
Kowloon in a game that had the fans holding their breath through the last inning.
Melrose Family Chiropractic pitcher Chris Hofman struck out her first opponent then
walked the second. Kowloon's Karrie Babo stepped into the batters box and kissed
a triple to bring in the first run of the inning.  Heather Irber(1 RBI), Melanie Baker,
and April Deluca (1 RBI) all followed with singles that gave the purple shirts of
Kowloon a 4 run lead. Melrose Family Chiropractic countered by capitalizing a couple
errors and a hit by Jane Heelen which brought 3 run across the plate.  Melrose scored
6 more through the third inning with hits by Angel Savini (1 RBI), Linda Ayala RBI double,
Nancy Curiale, Natalie Lavoie, Maura Mulcahy, and a 2 RBI double by Jean Carr that put
the green shirts up 9 to 4. In the fifth, Mulcahy and Carr both singled and Ayala hard hit
allowed both to score giving Melrose Family Chiropractic a 7 run advantage.
Kowloon's offense remained quite until the top of the sixth when three hits, one walk and
an error produced 3 runs closing the gap to with in 4 runs. Melrose Family Chiropractic
pick up 2 insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth courtesy of Hofman's single,
Sue Rutaowoski's RBI triple and Curiale's sacrifice hit put the green shirts run total to
lucky number 13.  Kowloon was not done with the game at the top of the seventh, patience
in the batters box produces 3 walks but there were 2 outs.  A single by Deluce drove in two
run and Stephanie Alves singled to load the bases but that was the end of the road as a fly
ball to third base ended game 13-9. The win allowed Melrose Family Chiropractic to advance
to the championship game and play the winner of Tuesday night's game between
AJ Simboli Real Estate and SCT Tickets.

AJ Simboli Real Estate struggled offensively against the first place team SCT Tickets on
Tuesday night.  The red shirts bats were uncharacteristically quite with only 3 hits on the
evening by Jackie Gomez, double to left field in the second inning and a single in the sixth.
Rosie Kyes followed Jackie with her own single in the sixth but the team did not score.
Defensively AJ Simboli Real Estate had only one error, was successful with a run-down
out at third base and key plays by Minervia Cruz at third base, but SCT Tickets had
15 hits that produced 10 runs to move on to Wednesday night's championship game.
The championship game set (10-1) SCT Tickets against (7-4) Melrose Family Chiropractic.
Melrose was SCT's only loss on the season and each game was exciting and well matched.
Wednesday night's game was no exception.
Collen Fahey got the ball rolling for
Melrose Family Chiropractic by reaching first on an error.  Then Nancy Curiale slapped
a single that was enought for Fahey's lightening speed to cross home plate giving the
green shirts a 1-0 lead att he top of the first. SCT Tickets matched Melrose's run in
the bottom half of the first inning with a lead off hit by Amy Dunn and Cheryl Marotta
RBI single tied the game at one apiece.  Both pitchers settled into a rythum over the
next couple of innings; Chris Hofman of Melrose pitched a strong game with
4 strikeouts over the cource of the game. SCT Strung together three hits in the
third inning as the top of the batting order Dunn, and Karen Sudbey got with singles
and Marotta once again singled and picked up 2 RBI's give the Pink shirts a 3-1 edge.
Melrose tapped in on SCT's pitcher, Lisa Lucas, in the fourth as Curiale smashed a beauty
to left center and a walk for Natallie Lavoie set the stage for Jean Carr to single the two
across the plate.  Marcia Hall Drive to first gave Carr ample time to reach home as well
and Melrose Family Chiropractic regained the lead 4-3. Melrose picked up 2 more
runs at the top of the fifth when Maura MulcahySingled to left field, Linda Ayala reached
on an error and Hofman's hit to center field drove them home.  SCT slowed Melroses
momentum with a 6-4-3 double play and a fly ball to short field ended the green shirts threat.
SCT Tickets came out in the fifth showing their prowess at the plate as 5 hits plus three
walks turned into 8 runs.  Dunn, Sudbey, Lucas, Patty Carey, and Sue Courchesne all hit
RBI singles to give SCT Tickets 11-6 lead.  In the top of the 7th Melrose Family Chiropractic
did not give up an double by Lavoie gave the green shirts hope but that that was diminished
when Lavoie was caught in a run down and was tagged out at second base.  Hall tried to get
things going again with a double but the side was retired and the game was over.
Lucas was tireless on the mound for SCT, she hurled 6 strikeouts and gave up 10 runs.
The pink shirts of SCT Ticket takes home their third championship in as many years.

Melrose Family Chiropractic blemishes SCT Ticket’s record.
Since last year the Pink shirts of SCT Tickets have not lost a regular season game

double play.  With AJ Simboli Real Estate up 2-0 in the top half of the third inning,
Melrose got on the stick. Sheree Atkinson drove in the first run with a triple and

Three games were on tap for the 8th week in Saugus Women’s Over 30 Softball League.

AJ Simboli Real Estate (1-5) brought their best to field this week with two match ups.
Monday night they faced (4-2) Melrose Family Chiropractic.  Combining 3 walks with 5 base hits
by Maritza Rodriguez, Rosie Kyes, Ellen Giannusa, Minervia Cruz and Jackie Rodriguez, the
Red shirt of AJ Simboli Real Estate racked up 6 runs in the first inning.  Melrose Family Chiropractic
went 3 up, 3 down in the bottom half of the first.  AJ Simboli tacked on 4 more runs in the second
on 5 hits; singles by Giannusa, J. Rodriguez, Carmen Gonzales (RBI) and doubles each by
Lisa Ceecherini (RBI) and Christina Quijuda (2 RBI). Melrose Family Chiropractic got on the score
board in the bottom half of the second with two runs on 4 hit from RBI singles by Colleen Fahey
and Marcia Hall making the score 10-2 in favor or AJ Simboli Real Estate. Melrose Family Chiropractic

In their second outing of the week, AJ Simboli Real Estate battled Kowloon.
The Red shirts of AJ Simboli, with enthusiasm created from Monday night’s game, went up
six runs to nothing through four innings.  Kowloon struggled at the beginning against the pitching
of Lisa Ceecherini but in the fifth, Kowloon was able to get a mark on the score board.
Trailing 8-1 and heading into the sixth inning, Kowloon made a grand effort stringing together
a series of hits and came within 2 of AJ Simboli 8 runs. Having the home team advantage,
Kowloon needed to hold AJ Simboli at the top of the seventh and then produce enough runs to
tie or beat the Red shirts. Kowloon kept AJ Simboli Real Estate from scoring but despite having
runners in scoring position in their last at bat, Kowloon was unable to score again thus giving
AJ Simboli Real Estate their second win (8-6) of the week and third win of the season.
