Celebrate “SAUGUS DAY”
at Suffolk Downs
SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 2009

Suffolk Downs will be celebrating individuals and organizations in the town of Saugus that make a positive difference in their community on “Saugus Day,” Saturday, August 8.
The track is recognizing individual cities and towns as part of its 2009 “Commitment to Community” program.

Parking and admission will be free for Saugus residents (with proper ID).
In addition to a full card of live racing, the track will provide free family entertainment, including pony rides, carnival games, face painting and a balloon artist, at the outdoor tent and playground area.
All in attendance will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with a racehorse and jockey at the track’s “Fan Photo Experience.”

The family fun begins at 12:30 p.m.

The following Saugus organizations will be recognized in the track’s “Community Winner’s Circle” with a $500 donation to each of them:
Saugus Youth and Recreation Commission
Saugus Public Library
Saugus Council on Aging
Saugus Youth Hockey
Cpl. Scott J. Procopio Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The “Community Winner’s Circle” was established last year by Suffolk Downs in a continuation of the track’s long-standing community outreach program.
Each “Community Winner’s Circle” honoree is recognized by the track in a post-race winner’s circle ceremony and with a contribution to their cause.

Saugus-based national recording artist Thirteen Yards to Victory will be performing the national anthem.

In 2005, Saugus residents recycled more than 3.5 million pounds
of material.

By doing this, Saugus saved the equivalent of 345,700 gallons of gasoline,

25,500 trees, and recycled enough plastic bottles to make 6,300 fleece jackets.
