Observing National POW/MIA Day

Friday September 20, 2019

On the third Friday of September, our nation remembers our military personnel
who have been prisoners of war (POW), those who are missing in action (MIA),
and their families. While National POW/MIA Recognition Day is not considered
a federal public holiday in the country, we do consider it a national observance.

Solemn remembrance Americans pause, rally, and pray.
We stand together to remember United States military personnel who have put
their lives in harm’s way throughout the years to protect the nation.
Ceremonies are held at the Pentagon and war memorials across the country.
Many states also proclaim special acknowledgements.
Truly, we thank you for your service.

Learn about the POW/MIA flag:

The National League of Families’ POW/MIA flag was designed by Newt Heisley
Newt Heisley modeled the flag based on his own son’s experience as a POW

The POW/MIA flag says: “You Are Not Forgotten”

You can find the flag displayed at many government buildings and national landmarks

Often, the flag is displayed on Armed Forces Day, Flag Day, Memorial Day,
Independence Day, and Veterans’ Day

Please take the time to remember.
