On Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 7:00 pm, Sean P. Murphy, an investigative reporter for the Boston Globe Newspaper, will give an illustrated presentation on the $15 billion Big Dig project at the Saugus Public Library.
Sean has written hundreds of stories on the Big Dig, and his talk will address such topics as its cost and financing, engineering achievements, and its politics and personalities. He will discuss the extraordinary coalition which made the Big Dig a reality in the first place; the public deception on its cost; and the curious management role played by the private sector consortium Bechtel/Parsons Brinckerhoff. He will also explain the persistence of hundreds of leaks in the tunnels; the tragic ceiling collapse that killed a woman in 2006; and the stunning amount of borrowing by the state to pay for the Big Dig project.
The talk is sponsored by the library and is free to the public. A question and answer period will follow Mr. Murphy's presentation.
Sean Murphy has been a reporter and editor at the Globe since 1987.
