Christine Palermo of Saugus will twirl her baton in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Christine Palermo of Saugus, as a member of The USA Baton Twirling All Stars will march into Herald Square on November 27, 2008 in the 82nd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade©. Palermo, a member of the Gangi Bay State Strutters of Woburn, along with teammates Kathryn and Amanda Banks of East Boston, will be part of the special performance group of 150 baton twirlers in celebration of Macy's 150th Birthday this year. Christine, a Junior at Saugus High School, Class of 2010 is in her 10th year of twirling. Christine is the daughter of Patti and Mark Palermo, granddaughter of Paul and Toni Palermo of Saugus and the late Henry and Hedy Drozdowicz, also of Saugus. Christine began twirling with the Saugus Wanapanaquins and later began twirling with the Gangi Bay State Strutters under coach Tracey Gangi- Johnson. She is accredited with numerous titles and awards throughout the years. The baton twirlers were selected based on their twirling ability and was open to students from across the United States. Right from their step off, 3.5 million live spectators will cheer the group before arriving at Macy's Herald Square for their national performance for more than 50 million TV viewers watching the broadcast live. Tune in to watch Christine Palermo and her team twirlers as they march down Broadway into Herald Square starting at 9:00 am,Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2008 on NBC.

Saugus Police to host Civilian Police Academy

Beginning Wednesday, October 15, 2008 and continuing for six weeks, the Saugus Police Department will offer its free Civilian Police Academy to Saugus residents age 18 and older. The classes will be held at the Public Safety Building 27 Hamilton Street, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Saugus officers will instruct classes on many facets of police work, such as domestic violence, motor vehicle law, patrol prodedures, addidents, firearms awareness, juvenile and drug problems. The academy will also include a police ride-along and a tour of the Middleton House of Correction. The class experience is designed to bring citizens into the station and give them a clear picture of what it is like to be a Saugus police officer. For further information, please call Lt.
